Ode to a Black Hole

(some silliness for my physics class)

your beauty shrouds you in an opaque black veil
for unlike all others who embody such wonder
light does not reflect back into the eyes of your beholders
instead light falls in love with you
as deeply as
I have
and as the lovely photon comes into your proximity
your attractiveness prevents a change in path

indeed it is a sadness to not have faculty to view your person
and yet I empathize with the photon who refuses to leave your side

un understandable
to me
however
are those heartless x-rays who separate themselves from your side
such closeness yet such distance
if only these cruel x-rays would bravely drift closer to your magnificence
it would be impossible for them to escape thorough appreciation of you
for there is a point
a point of no return
where attraction wholly compels one to seek your essence

but alas, at least these misguided x-rays lead me to you
my love
and let me revel in your features
to your mass, I say “I”
to your spin, I say “love”
to your charge, I say “you”
oh black hole, I LOVE YOU

and I notice that the features that define you
correspond
to the characteristics of the smallest elements
that make up me
could it be that tiny relations of yours could have transformed
into the quarks and electrons that have built me?
what splendor that would be!

to your mass, I say “I”
to your spin, I say “love”
to your charge, I say “you”
oh black hole, I LOVE YOU

and your baldness is endearing
and your disorder even more so
thus I thank string theory for calculating your entropy
because everything I can possibly understand about you is a gift to me
the greatest gift

again I say
(so you know I mean it)
to your mass, I say “I”
to your spin, I say “love”
to your charge, I say “you”
oh black hole, I LOVE YOU

I LOVE YOU
